Custom Packaging MOQ Guide

What changes the minimum order for custom packaging?

A packaging MOQ is the smallest practical order for one confirmed specification. It can change with structure, dimensions, material purchasing, print setup, finishing, tooling, variants, assembly, packing, and delivery form.

Illustrative packaging concept.

MOQ is tied to a specification, not only a box name.

A lower quantity does not automatically mean a lower total project cost. Setup, sample, tooling, material purchase, packing, and freight may be spread across fewer units. Compare quotations using the same size basis, material direction, print, finish, variants, packing, and responsibility scope.

Structure and sizeSheet use, tooling, conversion steps, and packing efficiency change with the dieline. State finished dimensions, internal or external size basis, opening, insert, and delivery form.
MaterialStock availability, sheet size, grade, color, thickness, and supplier purchasing rules vary. State the performance need and acceptable alternatives.
PrintingPress setup, color count, coverage, inside printing, and artwork versions create separate setup work. List quantity by version.
FinishingFoil, embossing, coating, windows, lamination, and other operations may require tooling or separate setup. Supply the finish layer and reference.
AssemblyInserts, closures, accessories, hand assembly, kitting, and unit packing can add labor or component minimums.
DeliveryFlat or assembled form, master-carton volume, route, and responsibility can change the practical total cost.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one standard MOQ?

For suitable folding carton, corrugated mailer box and rigid gift box configurations, Cartonary can arrange runs of 10 pieces, with a very high unit price. Availability is checked for the chosen structure, material and finish. Paper bags, labels and paper inserts have their own order requirements. Higher print quantities generally lower unit price; request a quotation for your intended quantity.

Can artwork versions share one MOQ?

Shared material or structure may help, but each version can still require separate setup, printing, inspection, packing, and labels. Request a breakdown by version.

Why can a higher quantity lower unit cost?

One-time or batch setup can be allocated across more units. The total order cost may still increase, so compare unit price, total cost, storage, forecast, and change risk.

What if the material or finish is uncertain?

State the visual or functional requirement and ask for named alternatives. Confirm the final material and finish through the appropriate proof or sample before production.

Cartonary confirms MOQ, price, setup, sample scope, production timing, packing, and shipping responsibility for the individual project. This guide does not publish a universal minimum.
